Silhouette on the Stage

by Charlie Balser

Oh, how I love the stage
The music filling the air
people piling into plush seats
my breathing halting as the music stops

The silence stretching across the stage
the lights glaring down on us
my heart beating against my chest
as I enter into the eyes of the audience

Oh, how I love the stage

My footsteps echo off the wooden floor
each one growing louder and louder
words spilling out of my mouth as the story begins
my silhouette dancing along the walls
we sway story with our words

The audience applauds
I bow as the show ends and breathe again
Oh, how I love the stage
