The Silence Beyond Death

by Lisem Lau

What waits beyond?
You wonder to yourself.
Do you ascend to heaven or plunge into hell?

Your heartbeat slows,
your body stiffens.
Your empty eyes lose their shine.

The howls haunt the hallow night,
bringing shivers down your staggering spine.
Your once lively body
now lies still in the shadowy abyss.

Flashbacks overfill your mind
and regrets – too many to count.
Alone in your own thought,
just you and the sorrowful night.

A rose shines in the moonlight,
its petals, glittery and bright.
A specimen that once blooms with life,
now fades like sand into the night.

Like a soul once fierce and warm,
now silenced and forgotten,
in the chambers of time.

In the end,
we all vanish beneath the control of time.
The inescapable fate always wins.
