I have never quite been able to draw an exact landscape – A perfect copy of something – before my very eyes. It starts off well enough – with a proper outline, Yet as each detail comes into place I slowly become a director of my own ensemble – With my own tasteful tweaks and alterations – A line here, a shadow there. Suddenly I'm crafting my own world. I'm simply unable to not engrave A piece of myself in its center. I feel as if it's my duty to give The barren hills a breath of life, To give the flowers brighter petals, To give the waves an iridescent shine, To pull the sun out – And shoo away the clouds. To choreograph a dance for the tangled weeds, And to write a song for the wind to hum. I just can't leave the trees untamed And the rocks rigid and tough – It's all destined to go through my careful touch. If the weeds don't mess up their dance And the wind doesn't stutter – If the sun shines high and bright And the trees behave themselves – If the flower petals gleam oh so bright And the ocean's waves are sapphires – Then my soul begins to smile. And when all is complete, I put my pencil down. I feel a weight lift off my chest – As if my role has been fulfilled. And I forget that I was ever supposed to Create an exact replica – At least that's how it usually goes.
