The Angel

by Justin Abdool

you opened up my heart
then made me cry my own tears

you took my hand like the heavenly angel you are
and spoke into my ears

giving hope to the hopeless
I did not know the meaning, back then

it was almost as if I was all alone in my life
until I found one true friend

you hit me harder than if I had fallen out of the sky from grace
when all you said so softly was –

one person can make a difference

in this cold and heartless kind of place
