Buried

by Kailyn Kazlauskas

My fear doesn't lie in the sight of them.
Rather I fear the shovels in their hands,
With their white-knuckled grips,
And their leering gazes.

I'm scared of how they will dig up my story –
Carelessly dusting off overlooked passages,
Pen in hand to replace blood's ink,
To rewrite what's written in stone.
