Headed North (and all that)

by J.P. Innes

Now that I am headed North and all that,
they said Skye isn't as blue as the sea but
from right here, where I am standing, it is.
From far away that is but hey, so are you now.
How can you ask of a stone as it rolls,
to slow himself before rolling some more?
Lying in your south side flat, even the
fucking lightbulbs knew I should have left earlier.

Does anyone know anything about
the Picts? Or who they were looking for when
they came up here? It couldn't have been you.
Or me stood here with butter on my chin.
I have also lost a hound, a bay horse,
a turtle dove. I don't follow their trails.

Note: Skye – the largest island of the Inner Hebrides archipelago in Scotland.
