Edinburgh Poetry Magazine accepts poetry submissions from everywhere in the world. All topics are welcome. All styles.

Edinburgh Poetry Magazine is a qualifying publication for the Poetry World Cup.

Submission Deadlines
Submissions are open all year, broken into three periods, each four months long. The three submission periods close on the following dates, every year.
– January 14th (with decision by March 15th for publication May 15th).
– May 14th (with decision by July 15th for publication September 15th).
– September 14th (with decision by November 15th for publication January 15th).

New issues are published on January 15th, May 15th, and September 15th of every year.

Edinburgh Poetry Magazine is edited and designed by Kirk Ramdath. Published in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada by Florencia Bay Books. Nanaimo is located on the traditional and unceded territory of the Snuneymuxw First Nation of the Coast Salish Peoples.

Poetry Submissions

Eligible poets can submit one poem every submission period into each of the following Edinburgh Poetry Magazine opportunities. Poets from Edinburgh who are accepted will be noted and additionally collected into a Poems from Edinburgh collection.

1) Edinburgh Poetry Contest

Open to submissions from everywhere on Earth. All accepted poems will be considered for the Edinburgh Poetry Contest. One poem will be chosen as winner at time of publication. This is a NON-PAYING contest – the prize is recognition as winner of the contest and being the first poem listed on the Published page for the duration of the publication period. All other accepted poems (if any) will be published as regular submissions in Edinburgh Poetry Magazine. Although the Edinburgh Poetry Contest is non-paying, winning it does make you eligible for an Editor's Choice prize which does have a payment. Edinburgh Poetry Contest Agreement Statement
Include the following statement with your submission:
"I agree with the guidelines for submissions to the Edinburgh Poetry Contest."

2) Inspired by Edinburgh: Life, Culture, Nature

Open to submissions from everyone currently living anywhere who has a real experience of and appreciation for Edinburgh, Scotland. Submit a poem inspired by your experiences of Edinburgh, personally reflecting on one or all of the themes of life, culture, and nature. These poems will be published in Edinburgh Poetry Magazine and also build a collection of Inspired by Edinburgh poems, and will also be featured in an international Wax Poetry and Art collection in the Library, to be determined. Please write a short note explaining your connection to Edinburgh. For example, you live there, you travelled or studied there, or you used to live there.

Inspired by Edinburgh Agreement Statement
Include the following statement with your submission:
"I agree with the guidelines for submissions to Inspired by Edinburgh."

If this is your first visit/submission to a waxpoetryart.com publication, you MUST read the additional guidelines on the Submissions Criteria page. It contains detailed information about important aspects, as well as the Wax Poetry and Art Code of Conduct and Privacy Policy, which must be read. If you have previously submitted, it is still recommended to review the Submissions Criteria once every submission period, but you may not necessarily need to do so.

Acceptance

Accepted submissions will be published online in Edinburgh Poetry Magazine. Accepted work will also be included in Comet, Poetry World, or another collection published in the Wax Poetry and Art Library.

No Attachments for Text (Reminder)
The entire submission must be copied and pasted or manually transcribed into the body of a single email and sent to the email address shown below. Do not include any text of your submission in an attachment.

About the Editor
Kirk Ramdath is the publisher, editor, and designer of Edinburgh Poetry Magazine and the waxpoetryart.com publications. He has read and performed at poetry events in Vancouver, Toronto, Halifax, and many other cities in Canada. Kirk had the honour of performing a poem at the Opening Ceremony of the world-famous Peace Bridge in Calgary in 2012. Watch the video of Kirk's Peace Bridge Poem. He has been a publisher since 2005. He also organized many dozen poetry events, around the 2010s. Particularly, open-mic poetry events with a featured artist. Kirk's first book, Love in a Handful of Dust, was published by Florencia Bay Books in 2025 and was originally published in print by Frontenac House in 2011. In 2002, Kirk obtained a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature, with Distinction, and a Minor in Philosophy from the University of Calgary, in Canada. Kirk was born in Trinidad and Tobago, moved to Canada at age 10 with his family, and now writes and publishes from Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada.
