The Terror of War

by Anna Nike Leskowsky

Nothing could break us.
The sins of our parents
will always be forgiven.
They went through enough
to clear our anger.
My brothers can now go outside
while the sun is rising.
I can enjoy my city of dolls
and sing songs for them.
The past and future happened
in and out of advent.
There is no need to dwell on dramas
when the opportunities transformed into facts.
I feel present in this self-created process
of shaping my memories
to honour my family,
soon after they survived the unthinkable entropy.

Then, I hear my own thought,
What if it happens again?
and I can't breathe...
