New Zealand Poetry Contest #3 – First Place

Dry

I’ve been sober 2 months now,
2 months and 20 days.
I never thought I'd be counting.

Drench me in some flood of vitality.
Wrap me up, warm me up,
I want to feel better. 
Why don't I feel better?

Where is the hidden
creativity,
holistic health whole,
untapped aquifer,
clearing, burned-off fog?

Crystal prism painted
leaves me exhausted,
stuck in some thickness,
sucking down zeros -
can I placebo
something warm?

I’ve been sober 2 years now,
2 years and some months.
I’ve stopped counting.

Branches hold jigsaw puzzle pieces
beneath clouds forming fractals,
swelling infinitely but never growing,
spinning over waters rolling

across some weir, some place
we can never see.

What a trip.
