Protest Poems Contest #1 – First Place

A Souvenir

by Goodwell Kaipa

We must time and again remind ourselves
That the world, however beautiful it is
Will never ever be as friendly as it seems
That those we call dearest friends
Are actually just pure fiends
We must constantly put it to mind
That the world, however tender it is
Will always be a place of untold violence
That mostly by and by peace will be a scarcity
We must frequently etch it in our hearts
That the world, however sweet it can be
Will never flow with milk and honey
Against the usual school of thought we are fed
Generally we must remember
It was our fellow man who betrayed Jesus
