Winner: Weekly Poems Contest #31
by Ryann Gauthier
Clouds swell and deflate with fresh significance. Birds flirt in boastful flocks, hurling their way through sobbing air. Newborn spring. Seaplanes growl in an envious incline. The sun slips into the sea and spits the city's metallic teeth out an open mouth. Snow rots, seeping, feeding the skin of sleeping mountains. Sap runs up the rigid spines of swaying, green pines. Grasped by dirty hands, carrying the season's first pulse beneath their nails.
Biography of the Poet

With a background in literary and psychological studies, her poetry is driven by sound, texture, and close attention to emotional change.
