Winner: Weekly Poems Contest #38

Chaotic Mind

by Emma Robinson

my brain a hurricane always turning
winds collide inside my chest
thoughts thunder without warning

lightning flashes gone too fast
ideas spark then disappear
leaving heat behind my eyes
the storm consumes then quiet falls

ash settles where fire lived
again i wonder, is this me
or chaos wearing my name

i wrestle myself to just be
but stillness slips away from me
noise rushes in then fades out

i mask to exist between waves
i long for a river of calm
slow thoughts, soft and steady

but each time i try to reach it
the tide pulls me back to me
so i release the fight within
and exist scattered whole

Biography of the Poet
Emma Robinson: I'm 43, neurodivergent, and spend my days working in childcare and my nights scribbling poems. Writing helps me calm the noise in my head and make sense of the emotional storms that come with trying to fit into a world that doesn't always make space for different minds. Poetry gives me a place to be fully myself, no filter, no pressure, just real words for real feelings.

Keywords: identity, understanding, struggle, peace, masks
