Edinburgh Poetry Contest #2 – First Place
by Katie O'Connor
Don't you feel it? How the sun kisses your cheeks While birds whistle in tune And the earth rises up to meet you With every step you take Don't you feel it? How the trunks twist and grovel To keep you rooted in place How the mud stains your trainers And heals your bee stings Quietening uncertainty in slippery steps Don't you feel it? The cool rock holding you just above Lapping water made kind by the wind Rocking the birds back and forth Lulling you to sleep, whispering Rest here child, rest here now You have gone on long enough
