The Imprint of a Mitten

Quiet snow and a noisy night sky
Bullet holes in street signs
Pears with scab
A peach tree’s branches
Weighed down to the ground with fruit
Which never came to fruition
Coyotes in the distance
A lynx in the woods
Shrieking terror on a wedding night
Sand dunes and empty lights
Agua Fresca de Jamaica
Anelis your name sticks in the mind
Ice cream in the summer
Maple in the spring
The payout and the house
Absolutely crushing me
Now I climb these Scottish hills
And my father is in Duck Lake still
