Title image shows a steaming hot glass kettle full of black tea being tipped
and poured into a glass cup on a glass saucer. The tea in the cup is rich, dark, and golden.
Steam surrounds the cup. On the right of the teacup is a large ginger stem.

Being a Man and Other Poems

by Nkoyo Nsa

Being a Man

This king in his kingdom
Has rules and obligation,
Charged to serve,
For life, he agrees.

A Lord,
Basking in respect.
A crown for his queen,
Youthful and vibrant.

A father and friend
With shoulders high and strong
To hold firm his duty.

A brother and son
Facing life squarely
Like a giant tree,
You draw water from within
While grooming your offspring.

To make a home,
To build a legacy,
To nurture love,
To live a life.

This king is weighed
Oh his responsibilities,
Life can be tough on him
Yet, he wakes, he moves
You are a hero,
This king deserves accolades
Celebrate a man.

Those Voices

Ever heard silence speak?
They come in every face
In the face of your staff
Or the beggars who need you
Yes, it is that loud
Forced to stay quiet
To the rich voices of slavery
Through materials they cannot afford
Have you ever made another feel worthless
Yes that is you, the villain.

A Little Me

You are here for a purpose
To help heal or support
Never to hurt more
A little kindness can do

Join hands to sing along
Victory as we conquer the hate
Sparing this world a candy
A little smile is enough

Be a hero, would you?
Not just the stories / tales in the evening
Your journey starts, do something good
A little love can do

Let your light shine through
Hear the laughter, unreal but genuine
Imagine it, then live it
Your little care can heal

A world to see more lovers than haters
To correct rather than judge the prodigal
Accepting to the arms of faith in loving rebuke
Rather than be miserable with hatred and despair.
