Rhyming Poetry Contest #2 – First Place

It can take you by surprise When a mind is wandering With gates left open wide When words come to call And yet no warning at all They somehow get inside And leave you pondering As you hear muffled cries Removing bars of the cage As they plan their escape One senses perturbation The words will reassemble With tendency to tremble Displaying full anticipation All hiding behind a drape And eager to fill the page Then that tumbling starts Words will form a crowd Then a shuffling into line Perhaps following orders Keeping between borders So all look smart and fine To win minds and hearts Not mere words as such And soon all can see why A meaning in the pocket Will enters another brain Rubbing against the grain As like a firework rocket Soaring high up in the sky Words are liked so much
